As global leaders gather for the COP30 climate summit, UN Women has issued a strong appeal for a fully funded and accountable Gender Action Plan, arguing that the voices and needs of women must be placed at the heart of global climate policy.

According to the agency, many governments still treat gender considerations as optional rather than essential, even though women , especially those from vulnerable communities , face the most severe impacts of climate-driven disasters.

UN Women’s recent scorecard reveals that countries have fallen short on integrating gender into core climate strategies, including adaptation funds, disaster-response planning, and long-term sustainability measures. In many regions, women are disproportionately affected by drought, displacement, food scarcity, and the breakdown of local livelihoods.

In communities where women are responsible for securing water, fuel, and family care, climate pressures intensify their physical and emotional burden, often pushing them into cycles of poverty.

The organization stresses that a strong Gender Action Plan is not just a symbolic commitment but a practical necessity. It calls for increased funding, stronger accountability, and gender-responsive climate programs that protect the most at-risk households.

As the world confronts unprecedented environmental disruption, UN Women warns that climate action lacking a gender lens will only widen existing inequalities and put millions more women in danger.
